The game

A guy stood ready to make a bocce shot for what seemed an eternity, looking up, looking down, figuring the distance, figuring the court conditions, direction and speed ... driving his opponent nuts.
Finally his exasperated opponent says, "What the hell is taking so long? Roll the damned ball!"
The guy answers, "My wife is over there watching me. I want to make this a perfect shot."
"GIVE ME A BREAK! You don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of hitting her from here."

The rules

The Rules are not that default. But the game is time consuming.
  1. Have an area to play. Either flat or grassy is fine.
  2. The area of play (or court) should just be about 60 - 70 feet long and
    about 10 - 12 feet wide.
  3. A random person throws the pallino (the target small white ball)
to the opposite side of the court, making sure it doesn't pass the other teams start line.
  4. A team starts the game by throwing their bocce ball,
attempting to get close to the pallino.
  5. Next person or team attempts to throw, or bowl their bocce closer to the pallino.
People not throwing keep track of where the balls land.
  6. Both teams and persons continue to throw their bocce until
everyone has used all their bocce balls.
    Simple rules right?

Keeping Score

Picture
  1. Game is repeated until either team reaches 13 points or whatever the set score is.
  2. Throwing the ball in a manner to knock someone else's out of the way is permitted, but you won't gain points.
  3. The team closest to the jack scores. They are awarded one point for each ball that is closer to the jack than the closest ball of the other team.
  4. No points are given to two bocce landing at the same exact distance from the pallino.
  5. Any throw touching the pallino does not gain a point.
(Many of these rules depend on the region or how you want to play it.)
